Europa Point Lighthouse, also known as the Trinity Lighthouse, is perched at the very edge of Gibraltar, where the Atlantic Ocean merges with the Mediterranean Sea. Inaugurated on August 1, 1841, the lighthouse has been a crucial navigational aid for ships passing through the Strait of Gibraltar.Built by Trinity House, it is the only lighthouse the agency operates outside of the British Isles. The original light, powered by a single-wick oil lamp and augmented by lenses and mirrors, has been upgraded several times over the years to increase its intensity and range. Today, the lighthouse uses LED lanterns and has a range of 18 nautical miles (33 km).Visitors to Europa Point can admire the lighthouse's classic British design, characterized by its cylindrical white tower with a broad red horizontal band. From this vantage point, you can often see the coast of North Africa and the Rif Mountains of Morocco. Other attractions at Europa Point include the Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque, the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe, and Harding's Battery, offering a blend of history, culture, and stunning natural beauty.
