The Gibraltar Cable Car provides a swift and scenic journey to the Top Station, 412 meters above sea level. Built in 1966, the cable car was initially constructed for military purposes but soon opened to the public, becoming a vital transport for tourists. The ride itself offers breathtaking views, and at the summit, you'll find a complex with terraces, a café, a restaurant, and a souvenir shop. The Top Station serves as a gateway to the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, where you can encounter the Barbary macaques, explore historical military sites like the Great Siege Tunnels, and enjoy attractions such as the Skywalk and St. Michael's Cave. The cable car journey includes an audio tour guide, providing historical background on the sights of Gibraltar in multiple languages. The cable car operates continuously throughout the day, approximately every 10 minutes, making it a convenient way to experience the Rock's summit. The Top Station offers views of two continents, three countries, and the meeting of two major bodies of water. A new cable car system is planned to enhance accessibility and increase capacity.
