Discover more about Commonwealth Park

Commonwealth Park, inaugurated on June 12, 2014, marks a significant milestone as Gibraltar's first public park in nearly two centuries. This verdant retreat, nestled within the city walls, provides a peaceful recreational area in the heart of town. Located adjacent to the King's Bastion Leisure Centre, the park features Mediterranean-style ornamental planting beds, 143 trees, expansive grass areas, water fountains, and sculptures. A contemporary bandstand and an artificial lake add to the park's charm. The park's design pays homage to traditional British parks while connecting to the surrounding Mediterranean environment. Built on a former parking lot, the park's construction prioritized sustainability, utilizing recycled soil from local and reclamation areas. Commonwealth Park has since become a versatile venue, hosting events like the Jazz Festival and outdoor cinema screenings. It is protected by an Act of Parliament to ensure its preservation as a public space.
