Princess Caroline's Battery, situated at the northern tip of the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, is a historical artillery battery named after Princess Caroline, daughter of King George II. Constructed in 1732, the battery played a crucial role in Gibraltar's defense.Over the years, the battery has undergone several upgrades, including a refurbishment in 1905 to accommodate a 6-inch Mark VII gun. Although the gun has since been removed, the underground magazine now serves as the Military Heritage Centre, housing a collection of relics from the 18th century to the present. Visitors can explore weapons, shells, and other artifacts, as well as the Memorial Chamber, which pays tribute to the regiments deployed to Gibraltar since the early 18th century.Today, Princess Caroline's Battery is a listed site with the Gibraltar Heritage Trust and offers visitors panoramic views of Gibraltar, its airport runway, and the Spanish coastline. It's a great stop along a walk through the Nature Reserve.
