Getting there

Walking

From Main Street, head south towards the Alameda Gardens. The Cable Car base station is located next to the gardens, approximately a 15-20 minute walk from Casemates Square. Follow the signs for 'Gibraltar Cable Car'. Cost: Free.

Public Transport

Take bus routes 2, 3, 4 or 10 to the Cable Car. The bus stop is a short walk from the base station. Check local bus schedules for the most up-to-date information. Cost: Single fares are approximately £2.20.

Taxi

Taxis are readily available throughout Gibraltar, including at the airport, border, and Casemates Square. A taxi from the Gibraltar International Airport or the border to the Cable Car base station takes approximately 10-15 minutes. Cost: Expect to pay around £10-£15 for a short taxi ride within Gibraltar.

Parking

If driving, limited free parking is available on Grand Parade near the Cable Car. Paid parking is also available in the vicinity. Be aware that parking can be challenging, especially during peak season. Cost: Free parking on Grand Parade (limited spaces). Paid parking rates vary.

Overview

Ascend to the summit of the Rock of Gibraltar in just six minutes aboard the Gibraltar Cable Car, a thrilling ride offering unparalleled views and access to the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. Built in 1966 by Swiss experts, the cable car has undergone several upgrades, ensuring a safe and modern experience for all visitors.As you ascend, enjoy the audio tour, which describes the historical background of the sights of Gibraltar. The cable car climbs to 412 meters (1,352 feet) above sea level, to what is called the 'Top of the Rock', though it is actually the second highest peak. From the top station, take in the breathtaking scenery, including views of two continents, three countries, and the meeting point of two great bodies of water. At the summit, explore the terraces, grab a bite at the cafe, or shop for souvenirs. The famous Barbary macaques (apes) are a highlight, but remember to keep a safe distance and protect your belongings. From the top station, you can easily access other attractions within the Nature Reserve, such as St. Michael's Cave and the Skywalk. The cable car operates throughout the day, approximately every 10 minutes, making it a convenient way to experience the Rock of Gibraltar.
