    Getting There

    Walking

    From the Grand Parade car park, walk along Europa Road, following signs to the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. Turn onto Engineer Road and continue to the Pillars of Hercules. The start of the Mediterranean Steps is signposted opposite the ticket office. Purchase a ticket for the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, which includes access to the steps. The ticket costs £19 for adults. There are toilets next to the ticket office.

    Public Transport

    Take the GI-2 bus to Europa Point and get off at the Garrison Gym stop near Windmill Hill Road. Walk up Windmill Hill Road to the Pillars of Hercules. Purchase a ticket for the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, which includes access to the steps. The ticket costs £19 for adults. Bus fare is approximately £2.20.

    The Mediterranean Steps is a nature trail and footpath located within Gibraltar's Upper Rock Nature Reserve. Constructed initially by the British military, the steps served as a vital communication route to various defense posts on the southern end of the Rock. Today, it is a popular hiking trail offering panoramic views and a glimpse into Gibraltar's rich history.The trail begins near Jews' Gate, at approximately 180 meters above sea level, and zigzags up to O'Hara's Battery, reaching over 425 meters. Along the way, hikers can enjoy views of the Strait of Gibraltar, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Spanish Costa del Sol. The path passes by historical landmarks such as Goat's Hair Twin Caves, which show evidence of prehistoric human habitation, and remnants of World War II fortifications.The hike is considered moderate to strenuous, with steep sections and rocky terrain. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water, especially during warmer months. The best times to hike the steps are early mornings or late afternoons to avoid the heat. The effort is well worth it, as the summit offers breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment.
