In 1859, it housed two guns, contributing to Gibraltar's overall defense system.Because of its distance from Gibraltar Harbour, Queen Charlotte's Battery was considered a 'retired' battery, making it less susceptible to enemy fire. Its elevated position on Gibraltar's slopes provided gunners with enhanced visibility and range. Today, the preserved battery is open to the public, showcasing its historical significance and architectural grandeur.
