Getting There

Walking

From the center of Kassiopi village, the castle entrance is a short, uphill walk. Head towards the Church of Panagia Kassopitra, and you'll find a narrow, cobblestone path opposite the church's main entrance. Follow this path as it winds through village houses and olive groves, leading directly to the castle gate. The walk takes approximately 5-10 minutes.
Public Transport

If arriving by bus, Green Bus lines A4 or A12 from Corfu Town stop in the center of Kassiopi. From the bus stop, walk towards the harbor and then follow the signs to the Church of Panagia Kassopitra. The cobblestone path to the castle starts opposite the church entrance. Bus fare from Corfu Town to Kassiopi is approximately €3-€5.
Taxi

Taxis are readily available in Corfu Town and can take you directly to Kassiopi village. From there, follow the walking directions to the castle entrance. A taxi ride from Corfu Town to Kassiopi costs approximately €35-€45 and takes around 40 minutes. There is limited free street parking available in Kassiopi, and a paid parking lot near the main road.

Kassiopi Castle, perched on a rocky hill in the heart of Kassiopi, is a testament to Corfu's rich and often turbulent past. This Byzantine fortress, dating back to the 6th century AD, was one of three key defensive structures that protected the island before the Venetian era. Together with Angelokastro and Gardiki Castle, it formed a defensive triangle, guarding Corfu against attacks from the north, south, and west. Strategically positioned on the northeastern coast, the castle overlooks the narrow Corfu Channel, offering a vital vantage point to spot oncoming ships. For centuries, it bravely defended the area, witnessing numerous sieges and power shifts. The castle's history is intertwined with various rulers, including the Byzantines, Normans, Angevins, and Venetians. Despite its significance, Kassiopi Castle was eventually dismantled by the Venetians, who feared it could be used against them. Its stones were used to construct fortifications in Corfu Town. Today, visitors can explore the ruins, including parts of the fortress walls, towers, bastions, and the restored main gate with its two side towers. A walk along the inside of the walls reveals stunning views of the village, harbor, and coastline. Although the central tower has disappeared, the remaining structures offer a glimpse into the castle's former glory. The perimeter of the castle stretches for over a kilometer, enclosing an area filled with olive trees. Exploring Kassiopi Castle provides a unique opportunity to step back in time and appreciate the strategic importance of this ancient fortress.
