Lions Square: Heraklion's Venetian Heart

Lions Square, also known as Eleftheriou Venizelou Square, is the true heart of Heraklion, Crete. This lively square is named after the iconic Morosini Fountain, a Venetian masterpiece featuring four intricately carved lions spouting water. These lions have become a symbol of the city and a popular meeting point for locals and tourists alike.The fountain was constructed in 1628 by Francesco Morosini, the Venetian Governor, to address the city's growing water needs.
