The Orlias Waterfalls, or Καταρράκτης Ουρλιάς, are a hidden gem located on the eastern slopes of Mount Olympus, near the ancient city of Dion. The area is steeped in myth; the river, once known as Helikon, Vafiras, or Orlias (named for the sound of rushing water), is said to have disappeared in shame after refusing to cleanse the Maenads of their bloodstained hands following Orpheus' murder. It re-emerges to form the picturesque waterfalls, offering a refreshing and easily accessible natural escape.The site features two main waterfalls, each creating its own small lake suitable for a quick dip. The first waterfall is just a short walk from where you park your car, making it easily accessible. A short path leads to the second, taller, and more impressive waterfall, with a larger and deeper pool. The hike to the main waterfall takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The area is ideal for those seeking a blend of natural beauty and mythical intrigue.

Getting There
Driving
From Dion, follow the signs towards Mount Olympus. Then, follow the signs to Katafygio Koromilias and then Olympus. After approximately 4 kilometers, you'll find the chapel of Agioi Konstantinos and Elenis, where you can park your car. From there, the first waterfall is just 50 meters away. There is asphalt road from Dion until the parking spot.
Public Transport
From Katerini, take the bus to Dion from the Katerini Bus Station (KTEL Katerinis). The bus ride takes approximately 30 minutes. From the bus stop in Dion, walk towards the archaeological site, following the signs. After a 15-minute walk, you will reach the park entrance where the waterfall is located. Follow the path to the waterfall.
Walking
From the parking area near the chapel of Agioi Konstantinos and Elenis, it's a short walk to the waterfalls. Follow the path leading to the first waterfall, about 50 meters away. Continue a bit further to reach the second, more impressive waterfall.
