Walking

From the center of Katerini, head south on Eleftheriou Venizelou Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Konstantinou Karamanli Street. Turn left onto Konstantinou Karamanli Street and follow it as it curves slightly to the right. After about 1 kilometer, you will see signs directing you to the Macedonian Tombs. Follow the signs; the tombs should be located on your right. The total walking distance is approximately 2 kilometers and will take around 25-30 minutes. There are no tolls or parking fees associated with walking.
Public Transport

From Katerini's central bus station, take the local bus towards Litochoro. Ask the driver to let you off at the stop closest to the Macedonian Tombs; it is generally known among locals. The bus ride should take about 15-20 minutes. After getting off, walk back a few meters to the signs indicating the direction to the tombs, which are within a short walking distance from the bus stop. A single bus fare within Katerini is approximately €1.20.
Taxi

Taxis are readily available in Katerini. A taxi ride from the city center to the Macedonian Tombs will take approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic. The estimated cost is between €8-€12. There are no additional tolls or mandatory access fees.

The Macedonian Tombs of Katerini, located a few kilometers northeast of Katerini in Central Macedonia, Greece, are significant archaeological sites that provide valuable insights into the burial practices and cultural heritage of the ancient Macedonian civilization. Dating back to the 4th century BC, these tombs are remnants of the Hellenistic period and offer a glimpse into the lives and beliefs of the region's elite. Discovered in the late 20th century during clay recovery work, the tombs consist of burial chambers constructed from precisely manufactured limestone monoliths, plastered and painted inside. Tomb A, the western grave, features a pre-chamber and a main burial chamber separated by a double-winged marble door, showcasing intricate architectural details. The floor is covered with stone slabs, and the interior walls are adorned with painted plaster. Tomb B, the smaller eastern grave, is a single-chamber structure with two-tone paintings. These tombs are considered important examples of Macedonian funerary architecture, reflecting the social structure and artistic achievements of the time. While access inside the tombs is not possible, metal covers protect the structures from weathering, allowing visitors to view them from above. The surrounding area adds to the allure of the site, with Mount Olympus providing a stunning backdrop.
