The Church of Elkomenos Christos, prominently situated in Monemvasia's lower town, is a captivating landmark steeped in history and religious significance. The current structure largely dates back to 1697, with the bell tower added in the 18th century. Inside, visitors can admire rare Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons, including a revered 14th-century icon of Christ Elkomenos, which was stolen and recovered before being returned in 2011.The church's architecture is a blend of Byzantine styles, featuring a central dome, a rectangular nave, and marble carvings. Two thrones flank the entrance, traditionally reserved for the Byzantine Emperor and Empress.
