Portello Beach is a hidden gem located in Monemvasia, Greece, offering visitors the chance to swim in the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea while surrounded by the imposing medieval architecture of the fortress. This small cove, situated on the south side of the rock, was once the main sea gate and the only swimming spot for the inhabitants of the castle.Recently restored, Portello Beach provides a unique and memorable experience. Instead of sand, a stone pathway leads into the sea. The water is known for being deep and clear, offering a refreshing swim with a view of the ancient walls. The beach is protected from northerly winds, making it a calm and pleasant spot for a dip.While not a traditional sandy beach, Portello's historical significance and unique setting make it a must-visit for those staying within the castle walls. A shower is available for rinsing off after a swim. Keep in mind that there aren't any changing rooms, so it's best to arrive prepared in your swimsuit.
