The Armenistis Lighthouse, also known as Faros Armenistis, is a historic landmark located on the northwestern coast of Mykonos, Greece. Standing 19 meters tall, it was erected in 1891 as a response to the tragic sinking of the British steamship Volta in 1887, which resulted in the loss of 11 lives. The lighthouse was strategically positioned to guide ships safely through the Aegean Sea. The lighthouse's design features an octagonal stone tower with a lantern at the top. The original lighting mechanism, crafted by the French company Sauter Lemonier, even won an award at the International Exhibition in Paris. This mechanism was used until 1983 and is now on display at the Aegean Maritime Museum in Mykonos Town. While the lighthouse interior is generally closed to the public , the exterior and surrounding area offer stunning views.
