    The Folk Museum is located in Rethymno's Old Town, easily accessible on foot from most central locations. From the Rimondi Fountain, walk east along Vernardou Street. The museum will be on your left after a short distance. The walk is generally flat and takes only a few minutes.

    If arriving by KTEL bus at the main bus station, walk towards the city center and follow the signs to the Old Town. Once in the Old Town, follow Vernardou Street to the east. The museum will be on your left. A bus ticket within Rethymno town costs approximately €1-€2.

Established in 1973, the museum is dedicated to researching, collecting, and preserving the folk traditions of Crete, particularly the Rethymno region.The museum is housed in a beautifully restored two-story Venetian building that exemplifies urban residences during the final phase of Venetian rule in Crete. The building itself, with its arched passageway, ornate windows, and stone staircase, is a significant architectural element.The museum's collection comprises over 5,000 items, offering a comprehensive look at Cretan folk art and history. Exhibits include hand-woven textiles, embroidery, lace, baskets, pottery, and tools related to agriculture and bread making. Visitors can also view historical artifacts such as personal items belonging to Eleftherios Venizelos, banners from Cretan revolts, weapons, coins, seals, and historical documents from the era of the Cretan State (1898-1913).
