Kallithea Springs, situated just 9 kilometers from Rhodes Town, is a mesmerizing destination where history and natural beauty converge. This coastal oasis, originally established as a thermal spa in the early 20th century, boasts a rich history dating back to ancient times, when its reddish waters were believed to possess healing properties. The springs gained prominence during the Italian occupation of Rhodes, with the construction of a stunning architectural complex in the 1920s. Designed by architect Florestano Di Fausto (or Pietro Lombardi), the buildings showcase a unique blend of Art Deco and Byzantine styles, featuring elegant arches, intricate mosaics, and decorative stonework. The attention to detail and integration with the natural environment, overseen by Armando Bernabiti, created an idyllic setting. Inaugurated in 1929, Kallithea Springs quickly became a renowned spa, attracting visitors from around the world seeking its therapeutic waters. The complex featured the Rotonda Hall, where thermal waters once flowed, along with terraces, patios, and meticulously maintained gardens adorned with palm trees and exotic plants. After a period of decline, Kallithea Springs underwent extensive restoration and reopened in 2007. Today, it stands as a cultural monument, offering visitors a chance to explore its architectural grandeur, swim in the crystal-clear waters of its coves, and relax in its tranquil atmosphere.
