Car
If you are travelling by car, head to the village of Sfakia, which is the closest settlement to Samaria Gorge. From the main road, follow the signs to Sfakia. Park your car in the designated parking areas in the village. Once parked, walk towards the sea, and you will find signage directing you towards the Samaria Gorge. The walk to Shelter Katsiveli from the village will take you approximately 30-40 minutes along a well-marked trail.
Public Transportation
To reach Shelter Katsiveli via public transportation, take a bus from Chania to Sfakia. The bus service operates several times a day, and the journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive in Sfakia, follow the same walking directions as mentioned for car travelers. The bus fare is usually around 7-10 euros, depending on the season.
Walking
If you are already within Samaria Gorge, make your way towards the exit at Agia Roumeli. From there, take the trail that leads to Sfakia. The hike takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Once in Sfakia, follow the coastal path towards the Shelter Katsiveli. Look for signs or ask locals for directions. The trail is scenic but can be steep in certain sections, so wear appropriate footwear.
