The Santorini Wine Museum, also known as the Koutsogiannopoulos Wine Museum, offers a captivating journey into the island's unique viticultural heritage. Housed in a natural cave eight meters below ground, the 300-meter-long labyrinth showcases the history of wine production in Santorini from 1660 to 1970. Founded in 1880 by the Koutsogiannopoulos brothers, the museum is now run by the fourth generation of winemakers. It took the family 21 years to create this cultural gem, a testament to their passion for preserving the island's winemaking traditions. The museum details the process from vineyard to bottle, with exhibits including ancient tools and machinery, family records, and recreations of traditional winemaking techniques. Visitors can explore the exhibits at their own pace with an audio guide available in 14 languages or a guidebook in 22 languages. The tour culminates in a wine-tasting experience, where you can sample a selection of Santorini wines, including Assyrtiko, Ambelones, and Kamaritis. The museum also hosts Greek nights with live music and dancing.
