Navagio Beach, or Shipwreck Beach, is an exposed cove on the coast of Zakynthos, in the Ionian Islands of Greece. Originally known as Agios Georgios, it gained its iconic status from the shipwreck of the MV Panagiotis. In October 1980, the ship, allegedly smuggling contraband cigarettes, ran aground in stormy weather while attempting to evade the Greek Navy. The crew abandoned the ship, and it washed ashore, becoming a permanent fixture of the beach.The beach is framed by towering limestone cliffs, creating a dramatic backdrop for the azure waters and white pebbly sand. The contrast between the golden beach, the deep blue sea, and the white cliffs is a sight to behold, making Navagio one of the most photogenic beaches in the world.
