    Discover more about Skinari Lighthouse

Located near Elation, the Skinari Lighthouse stands as a historic beacon on the northernmost point of Zakynthos island. Constructed in 1897, it was strategically built to ensure the safety of boats navigating the passage between Zakynthos and Kefalonia. The lighthouse is a 9.5-meter-high stone tower that rises from the keeper's house. During World War II, the lighthouse's machinery was stolen, causing it to cease operation until 1945. Originally, it emitted a white flash every 1.5 seconds with a range of 21 nautical miles. Today, a modern beacon has replaced the original Fresnel lens. While the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, the surrounding area offers captivating views of the Ionian Sea, nearby windmills, and access to boat trips to the Blue Caves and Navagio (Shipwreck) Beach. The area around Cape Skinari also has unique plant life.
