Discover more about Xigia Sulfur Beach

Xigia Sulfur Beach is not just one beach, but a series of three beaches found on the northeastern coast of Zakynthos, each offering a slightly different experience. The most famous, northern Xigia, is known for its strong sulfur scent and milky waters, resulting from sulfur springs flowing from caves at the base of the cliffs. These springs are believed to possess healing properties, attracting visitors seeking relief from arthritis, skin conditions, and other ailments. The beach itself is a small, pebbly cove sheltered by towering white cliffs. The water is crystal clear, but can be cooler due to the springs and the depth of the sea. The seabed drops off quickly, making it suitable for good swimmers. Despite the sometimes pungent smell, many find the health benefits and stunning scenery well worth a visit. South of the main beach, accessible by swimming or climbing over rocks, lies middle Xigia, a more secluded and rugged option. Here, the sulfur scent is less intense, offering a quieter escape. Further south is the third beach, southern Xigia, which also has sulfur springs. During peak season, the beaches can get crowded, so arriving early is recommended. A tavern sits above the main beach, offering refreshments and snacks, with a unique pulley system to deliver orders directly to the beach.
