Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Public Transport
From St. George's, local buses are a convenient way to reach birdwatching sites. Buses depart from the Melville Street Bus Terminal and serve various parts of the island. Look for buses with route stickers indicating destinations like Grand Etang National Park or Mt. Hartman. Bus fares range from EC$2.50 to EC$6.50. Be aware that bus service is less frequent after 7:00 pm.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available in St. George's and offer a direct route to birdwatching locations. A taxi from St. George's to destinations such as Grand Anse Valley costs around $20 (€18). Ensure the driver displays a rate card to avoid overcharging. Taxis accept both US and East Caribbean dollars, but paying in XCD may be cheaper. Tipping the driver 10% is customary.
Driving
If driving from St. George's, be aware that parking in the city can be complicated. Consider using the Public Car Park near the Royalton Grenada. To get to Mt. Hartman, take the main coastal highway; it's located in southwestern Grenada, close to most hotels and resorts. Car rentals range from US$50 to US$75 per day, and a local driving permit (EC$60) is required. Some rental companies may include the permit as part of their service.
