The Grenada National Museum, situated in the heart of St. George's, is a repository of the island's vibrant history and culture. The museum's complex comprises buildings dating back to the mid-1700s, with the main building having served as French Barracks in 1704, and later as a prison until the late 1850s. It also functioned as the Home Hotel, a luxury hotel, and later a warehouse. The Grenada National Museum was established in 1976. The museum's exhibits cover a range of topics, including the island's first inhabitants, the European arrival, slavery, the plantation economy, early transport and technology, and the former whaling industry. Major political and social events, such as Grenada's independence, the Grenada Revolution, and the assassination of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop, are also represented. One of the museum's notable artifacts is a marble bathtub said to have been used by Empress Josephine Bonaparte when she was a child.
