Discover more about River Antoine Estate Rum Distillery

River Antoine Estate Rum Distillery, nestled in the northeastern parish of St. Patrick, offers a captivating journey into Grenada's rich rum-making heritage. Established in 1785, it stands as the oldest functioning water-powered distillery in the Caribbean, a living museum where time-honored traditions persist. A tour of River Antoine is an immersive experience, engaging all the senses. Visitors witness each stage of the rum-making process, from the crushing of locally grown sugarcane to the fermentation and distillation. The iconic waterwheel, powered by the River Antoine, drives the cane crusher, extracting the juice in a method unchanged for centuries. The spent sugarcane, known as bagasse, dries in the sun before fueling the fire that heats the copper pot stills. The air is thick with the sweet scent of molasses and the smoky aroma of burning bagasse. The distillery produces Rivers Rum, a high-proof spirit renowned for its potency and unique flavor. The rum is bottled and sealed by hand, a testament to the distillery's commitment to traditional methods. A visit to River Antoine is more than just a tour; it's an encounter with Grenada's cultural identity, a chance to witness a piece of history still very much alive. Be warned, this isn't your average liquor. After your tour, be sure to visit the gift shop to purchase some local rum to bring home a piece of Grenada's heritage.
