The village of Pago was once a thriving community, but a smallpox epidemic in 1856 decimated the population, leading to its abandonment.According to Chamoru legend, Pago Bay was formed by a giant fish that ate the central part of the island. The women of Pago were known for scenting their hair with lemon peels, and when those peels were found in Agana Bay, the women there knew the fish had created an undersea tunnel. The women of Agana then wove a giant net from their hair and captured the fish, saving the island.Today, Pago Bay Overlook is a peaceful spot where visitors can relax, take photos, and appreciate the beauty of Guam's coastline.
