    The Guam Institute, or Jose P. Lujan House, offers a glimpse into Guam's past, located in the heart of Hagåtña. Built in 1911 by Jose Pangelinan Lujan, a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker, the house is one of the few remaining pre-World War II structures in Hagåtña.From 1928 to 1941, the house served as the Guam Institute, a successful private school founded by Nieves M. Flores. The school played a significant role in the community, educating many of Guam's future leaders. The building also functioned as a social center, hosting a general store and a U.S. Navy officers' club.The Guam Institute is listed on both the Guam and National Registers of Historic Places. Although damaged by Typhoon Pamela in 1976, it was restored with careful attention to preserving its original character. Today, the Guam Preservation Trust manages the site, offering visitors a chance to explore Guam's history and culture through exhibits and educational resources.
