Agat Unit | Ga'an Point stands as a powerful reminder of Guam's pivotal role in World War II. As part of the War in the Pacific National Historical Park, this site marks the southern landing beaches used by U.S. forces during the Battle of Guam in July 1944. The area, heavily fortified by Imperial Japanese defenders, was chosen to help secure Orote Peninsula, with its strategic airfield and entrance to Apra Harbor.Today, visitors can explore the remains of these fortifications, including pillboxes and concrete blockhouses, offering a tangible connection to the past. Two relocated Japanese guns, a 25mm anti-aircraft gun and a 20cm short-barrel coastal defense gun, are on display. The well-concealed pillboxes at the end of Ga'an Point proved difficult for the U.S. Marines to destroy during the battle.Hågat Beach, accessible from the parking area, provides a serene setting with a small picnic area. The shallow, rocky waters contain remnants of WWII-era vehicles, including an Amtrac (amphibious tractor) LVT-4 and a jeep trailer, offering a unique underwater view for snorkelers. Ga'an Point offers an enriching experience, blending historical significance with the natural beauty of Guam's coastline.
