Getting There

  • Boat

    The Blue Hole is accessible only by boat, typically departing from Cabras Marina in Apra Harbor. Dive operators in Guam offer tours to the Blue Hole, including transportation. Contact a local dive shop for bookings and departure information. Tour costs vary.

  • Public Transport

    If starting from a location accessible by Guam Regional Transit Authority (GRTA) bus, take a bus towards Hågatña. From Hågatña, transfer to a route that heads towards Santa Rita. Alight near the intersection of Route 4 and Route 17 in Santa Rita. From there, it is approximately 1.5 miles to an unmarked road, followed by 0.5 miles to the Blue Hole; however, note that the Blue Hole is only accessible via boat, so this route will only get you to the general area. Bus fares are around $2 for a single ride. Due to the distance and limited access to the actual dive site via public transport, this is not a recommended approach.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available in Guam, but can be relatively expensive. From Guam International Airport (GUM) to Santa Rita-Sumai, a taxi may cost between $130-$170 and take approximately 29 minutes. From Tumon to Santa Rita-Sumai, expect to pay around $160-$200. Once in Santa Rita-Sumai, you would still need to arrange for boat transportation to the Blue Hole. Taxis have regulated meters with a standard flag rate of $2.40, $4.00 for the first mile, and $0.80 every ¼ mile thereafter.

The Blue Hole is a captivating dive site off Guam's western coast, celebrated as a signature natural feature. It's situated in northern Agat Bay, near Apra Harbor. The hole is a vertical shaft that begins at around 60 feet and plummets to depths exceeding 300 feet. Divers often describe the opening of the sinkhole as heart-shaped. The Blue Hole is a popular spot for advanced recreational divers. A large window opens to the outer wall at about 125 feet, allowing divers to exit and ascend after a free fall through the shaft. Visibility often exceeds 100 feet, creating ideal conditions to spot marine life. Divers may encounter moray eels, nudibranchs, eagle rays, whale sharks, dolphins, and pilot whales. The reef flat at 60 feet features coral patches and schooling fish. Strong currents can occur, so the dive is best suited for experienced divers. Entry to the site involves mooring a dive boat, and exiting requires deploying a surface marker buoy.
