Petencito Zoo, officially known as Centro de Educación Ambiental y Vida Silvestre (CEAVS), is a public zoological park located near Flores, in the Petén region of Guatemala. The zoo was created in 1979 by the Empresa de Fomento y Desarrollo de Petén (FYDEP) to house confiscated regional wildlife. In 1992, it was ceded to the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala.
As you explore the grounds, you'll encounter a variety of animals native to the region, including colorful birds, playful monkeys, and majestic felines, all within a setting that mimics their natural habitats. The zoo provides interactive exhibits and guided tours to offer insights into animal behaviors and conservation efforts.

Getting There
Walking
From Parque Central in Flores, walk northwest on Calle 30 de junio until you reach Avenida 5 de febrero. Turn left and walk until you reach the bridge connecting Flores to the mainland. Cross the bridge and continue onto Carr. a San Miguel. After 1.5km, look for signs to Petencito Zoo on the right. It's a short walk from the main road.
Public Transport
From Flores, go to the bus terminal near the bridge. Take a bus or 'pick-up' heading to San Miguel for approximately Q5. Ask the driver to stop at Petencito Zoo. From the drop-off point, walk a short distance to the zoo entrance.
Taxi/Ride-sharing
Taxis are available from anywhere in Flores. A taxi ride to Petencito Zoo takes 10-15 minutes and costs approximately Q30-Q52.5, but agree on the fare before starting your trip.
Car
From Flores, take the road towards San Miguel, following signs for 'Carr. a San Miguel' for about 5 kilometers. The entrance to Petencito Zoo will be on your right. Parking is available on-site for around Q10.
