From Quetzaltenango (Xela), head east on CA-1 towards the town of Morales. Continue on CA-9 for approximately 150 kilometers until you reach the junction for Río Dulce. Take the exit towards Río Dulce and follow the signs for Castillo de San Felipe de Lara. The castle is located about 5 kilometers from the main road along the Río Dulce. Parking is available near the entrance.

To reach Castillo de San Felipe de Lara via public transportation, first, take a bus from Quetzaltenango (Xela) to Morales. Buses depart frequently from the main terminal in Xela. The fare is typically around 30-50 GTQ. Once you arrive in Morales, transfer to a bus heading to Río Dulce. The fare for this leg is around 20-30 GTQ. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop for Castillo de San Felipe de Lara, which is approximately 5 kilometers from the main road.
