From the center of Quetzaltenango, the mirador is accessible by foot, though it involves a moderately steep uphill walk. A reasonable starting point is Parque Centro América. Head west, following 12 Calle toward the mountains. The road will begin to ascend. Continue along this road, following signs for Mirador Xecaracoj. The walk takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Be aware that the road can be busy with traffic. There are no costs associated with walking.

Microbuses (minivans) are a common and affordable way to get around Quetzaltenango. Look for microbuses that are heading towards the outskirts of the city in the direction of the mountains. Ask the driver or 'ayudante' (helper) if they pass by Mirador Xecaracoj or a nearby location. The fare is typically around Q1.25 during the day and Q2 at night. You may still need to walk a short distance uphill from where the microbus drops you off.
