Getting There

  • Bus

From the Town Terminus in St Peter Port, several bus routes serve Sausmarez Manor. Routes 81 and 95 are options, with the journey taking approximately 7-10 minutes. Ask the driver to confirm the route includes the Manor due to potential roadworks or changes. A single bus fare is around £2.

  • Taxi

Taxis are readily available from St Peter Port. Taxi ranks are located next to the Town Church and along the seafront. A taxi journey to Sausmarez Manor will take around 5 minutes and cost approximately £12.

  • Walking

It is a pleasant walk along the Coast Path, where you can turn inland at Fermain Bay, then left when you get to the main road; or the inland route walking up Hauteville Road past Victor Hugo's House and straight on. It will take around 1.5 - 2 hours. It is all uphill so not recommended for anybody but the fittest. The return is gentler and an hour by road (turn left at the gate and straight on) or via cliff path which will take 2 - 2.5 hours. Utterly lovely but again only for the unhurried and fit as it is very up and down on a good path.

  • Car

Sausmarez Manor is located in Sausmarez Road, in the Parish of St. Martin on the island of Guernsey. From St Peter Port Drive along Seafront going South, straight up the hill. Left at the roundabout at the top. Past the Fermain Tavern, for 3/4mile. Look out for Brown sign on left pointing right. Turn there. From the South West, drive along Forrest Rd and follow signs saying St Peter Port South. Through St Martins Village, past the Coopand Queen's Arms, left at the lights and is 1st drive on the left opposite the brown sign. There is ample free parking available.

Discover more about Sausmarez Manor

Sausmarez Manor, located in St. Martin, Guernsey, is a historic house with a fascinating blend of architectural styles reflecting centuries of island history. With sections dating back to the late 12th or early 13th century, the manor has evolved through Tudor, Queen Anne, Regency, and Victorian eras. The front façade, built between 1714 and 1718 for Sir Edmund Andros, the first Governor of New York, is considered the finest example of Queen Anne Colonial architecture in Britain. The Sausmarez family's roots trace back to Scandinavia, moving through Normandy and Jersey before arriving in Guernsey between 1200 and 1254. The manor remained within the family, witnessing members serve as privateers, explorers, soldiers, and colonial governors. Tours of the house reveal memorabilia from the Andros and Sausmarez families, including the first Royal Navy uniform. The manor was spared damage during the German occupation in WWII because Sir Havilland de Sausmarez had refused to install electric lights, making it undesirable to the German forces. Today, Sausmarez Manor offers a multifaceted experience. Visitors can explore the wild subtropical gardens, home to exotic plants that thrive in Guernsey's mild climate, and discover the sculpture park featuring around 200 sculptures from around the world. A miniature train offers a ride through the grounds, and a pitch and putt golf course provides relaxed entertainment. Ghost tours are also available, exploring the manor's haunted history.
