The Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden, located within Saumarez Park in Castel, Guernsey, is a captivating retreat for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike. The garden boasts a collection of glass houses, including the Lemon House (rebuilt in 2010), the Orchard House (rebuilt in 2012), and the Vine House (rebuilt in 2014), displaying a magnificent run of South-facing glass.The Guernsey Botanical Trust formed in 2006 to restore the garden as a community project. The garden had been part of the private estate of the de Saumarez family, acquired by the States of Guernsey in 1937. After falling into disrepair, the Trust, spearheaded by Raymond J. Evison, began site clearance with volunteers.The garden serves as a social hub, offering opportunities for individuals to engage in gardening and promoting the physical and mental well-being of the island community.
