Hi, I'm Eve. Here are a few practical things to know before exploring Puruni Landing.
Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the capital city, Georgetown. Drive west on the Georgetown to Linden road (Linden-Soesdyke Highway). Continue towards Linden and take the road leading to the town of Linden. From Linden, continue towards the town of Mabura. After passing through Mabura, follow signs towards the Cuyuni-Mazaruni region. Ensure you have a reliable map or GPS, as some areas are less marked. The final stretch will involve a turn onto a less developed road which may require a 4x4 vehicle. Follow the road until you reach Peters Mine area, where you will find Puruni Landing at the coordinates 6.2400641, -59.3689561.
Public Transportation
For public transportation, take a bus from Georgetown to Linden. These buses leave frequently from the main bus park in Georgetown. Once you reach Linden, you will need to find a bus or minibus heading towards the Cuyuni-Mazaruni region. Confirm with the driver that they are heading towards Peters Mine or Puruni Landing. This journey may take several hours, so be prepared for a lengthy trip. After reaching Peters Mine, you may need to hire a motorbike or arrange for a local taxi to take you directly to Puruni Landing, as public transport may not reach the exact site.
Boat
If you are near river access points, an alternative is to travel by boat from nearby locations. You can hire a boat from a local operator in areas like Bartica. This route can be scenic and offers a unique experience but check the weather and boat schedules in advance. Ensure that you arrange the return trip, as boats may not operate on a fixed schedule.
