Walking
From the center of Lethem, head north towards the main road (Georgetown Road). Walk along this road, which is well marked and frequented by pedestrians. Continue walking for approximately 1.5 kilometers until you reach the junction where the main road splits. At this point, look for signs pointing to the Iwokrama Forest Reserve. Follow the road that leads towards the Iwokrama Forest entrance, located about 20 kilometers from Lethem. This area is generally safe, but it’s advisable to travel during daylight hours.
Bus
From the center of Lethem, locate the bus station, which is typically near the main market. Look for a bus heading towards the Iwokrama Forest Reserve or a shared taxi that goes in that direction. The bus ride will take you along the Georgetown Road. Inform the driver that you want to go to the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway. The journey should take around 30 to 40 minutes. Once you arrive, you may need to walk a short distance to reach the actual Canopy Walkway, following any signs or asking locals for direction.
Bicycle Rental
If you prefer a more active route, consider renting a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Lethem. Once you have a bike, head north towards the Georgetown Road. Cycling along this road, you can enjoy the scenery while making your way to the Iwokrama Forest Reserve. It’s about a 20-kilometer ride, so ensure you have enough water and snacks. There are usually signs along the road directing you toward the reserve. Once you reach the entrance, follow the designated paths to the Canopy Walkway.
