Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Cap-Haïtien, head towards the main road, Boulevard 15 Octobre. Walk along this road until you reach the intersection with Rue du Commerce. Continue straight until you see the local market, Marché de Cap-Haïtien, on your right. Keep walking straight along Boulevard 15 Octobre, past the market, until you reach the entrance to the Citadel trail. This will take you uphill through a path that leads directly to Laferriere Citadel.

  • Taptap (shared taxi)

    Find a taptap (shared taxi) at the main station in Cap-Haïtien. Look for those heading towards Milot. Once you board, tell the driver you are going to Citadelle Laferrière. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the base of the hill leading to the Citadel. From there, follow the marked trail up to the Citadel, which will take about 20-30 minutes of uphill walking.

  • Bicycle Rental

    If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Cap-Haïtien. Start by heading out on Boulevard 15 Octobre towards the north. After about 4 kilometers, you will reach the entrance to the trail leading up to Laferriere Citadel. Secure your bicycle at the designated area, then proceed on foot along the path to the Citadel.
