Getting There

  • Car

    From Grand'Anse, head northeast on Route Nationale #2 towards Petit-Goâve. Continue for about 1 hour until you reach the junction to Route de la Citadelle. Turn left onto Route de la Citadelle and follow the signs for Laferriere Citadel. The road is well-maintained but watch for occasional potholes. After approximately 30 minutes, you will arrive at the parking area near the base of the citadel. From there, prepare for a steep hike to the entrance.

  • Public Transportation

    In Grand'Anse, locate the local tap-tap (shared taxi) station. Look for a tap-tap heading towards Petit-Goâve. The fare is typically around 100 HTG (Haitian Gourdes). Inform the driver that you want to get off at the junction to Route de la Citadelle. After about an hour, get off at the junction and walk about 15 minutes to reach the parking area for Laferriere Citadel. Be prepared for a steep hike to the entrance from there.

  • Hiking

    Once you arrive at the parking area near Laferriere Citadel, you will need to hike approximately 1.5 kilometers uphill to reach the citadel entrance. This hike can be strenuous, so wear comfortable shoes and bring water. The path is marked, and you will enjoy beautiful views along the way. Allow at least 30-45 minutes for the hike, depending on your pace.
