Car
If you're traveling by car from Labadee, start on Route Nationale #1 (RN1) heading towards Cap-Haïtien. Drive for about 30-40 minutes until you reach the intersection sign for Citadelle Laferrière. You can follow signs for Citadelle Laferrière, which will lead you onto a smaller road. The drive is scenic, with views of the lush Haitian countryside. Once you arrive at the base of the Citadel, you will need to park your car in the designated parking area.
Public Transportation
To reach Laferrière Citadel using public transportation, head to the nearest bus stop or ask your hotel for the location of the local 'tap-tap' stations (shared taxis). Board a tap-tap heading towards Cap-Haïtien. The fare is usually around 100-200 HTG (Haitian Gourdes). Inform the driver that you are going to Citadelle Laferrière. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes. Once you arrive at the intersection for the Citadel, you may need to walk or take a motorcycle taxi (mototaxi) to the entrance. The mototaxi fare is typically 50-100 HTG.
Walking
If you prefer to walk from your accommodation in Labadee, expect a long trek. The Citadel is approximately 9 kilometers from Labadee, which could take about 2-3 hours on foot depending on your pace. Follow the main road leading towards Cap-Haïtien, and be sure to stay on the lookout for markers leading to the Citadel. Make sure to bring water and wear comfortable shoes, as the road can be uneven.
