Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey from Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. Head west on Route Nationale #1 (RN1) towards Carrefour. Continue on RN1 for about 30 km, passing through Carrefour and towards Leogane. From Leogane, follow the signs to Route Nationale #2 (RN2) which will take you towards Petit Goave. After Petit Goave, continue along the coastal road until you reach the town of Miragoane. Here, you will need to find a boat service to take you across to Golfe de la Gonâve, as the bay is largely accessible only by water. Expect to pay around 200-300 HTG (Haitian Gourdes) for the boat fare.
Public Transportation
To reach Golfe de la Gonâve using public transportation, make your way to the main bus terminal in Port-au-Prince. Look for a 'tap-tap' (shared taxi) heading towards Leogane. The ride will cost approximately 50-100 HTG. Once you arrive in Leogane, transfer to another tap-tap or a local bus heading towards Petit Goave. This should cost an additional 50 HTG. After reaching Petit Goave, you will need to hire a boat to take you to Golfe de la Gonâve. The boat fare will typically range from 200-300 HTG. Make sure to check the boat schedules ahead of time, as they can vary.
Boat
Once you arrive in Petit Goave, look for the local boat services that operate between the mainland and Golfe de la Gonâve. Boats usually depart from the main dock in Petit Goave. It is advisable to ask locals or check with your tap-tap driver for the most reliable boat service. The journey by boat will take about 30-45 minutes, depending on sea conditions. Ensure you have cash on hand for the fare, which is typically around 200-300 HTG.
