Getting There

  • Walking

    Start from the center of Saint-Marc, at the Place des Arts. Head north on Rue de la Révolution toward Avenue des Ducs d'Anjou. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Route Nationale 1. Turn left onto Route Nationale 1 and walk for about 30 minutes. Keep an eye out for signs directing you towards Citadelle Laferrière. After approximately 3 kilometers, you will come to a fork in the road at a small village called Vaseux. Take the right path, which leads up to the citadel. The walk might be steep, so take your time and enjoy the scenery. After about 1 kilometer, you will see the entrance to Laferriere Citadel on your left.

  • Bicycle

    Rent a bicycle from a local shop in Saint-Marc. Start your journey at the Place des Arts and head north on Rue de la Révolution. Once you reach Avenue des Ducs d'Anjou, take a left and continue until you reach Route Nationale 1. Turn left onto Route Nationale 1 and cycle for about 3 kilometers. Watch for signs for Citadelle Laferrière. At the fork, take the right path towards Vaseux. The ride will get steeper as you approach the citadel, but it's a beautiful route. After about another kilometer, the entrance will be on your left.

    From the center of Saint-Marc, head to the nearest bus stop and look for a local bus heading to the village of Vaseux. Buses in this area usually depart every 30 minutes. Once you reach Vaseux, disembark and ask locals for directions to Laferriere Citadel, as it is known to the residents. It is about a 1-kilometer walk from the bus drop-off point to the citadel entrance. Follow the trail marked by signs or ask for assistance along the way.
