    Getting There

    Car

    If you are driving from Port-au-Prince, take Route Nationale 1 (RN1) heading north. Follow the signs for Cap-Haïtien. After approximately 116 km, you will arrive in the vicinity of Cap-Haïtien. From there, follow the signs to Citadelle Laferrière. The final stretch involves a winding road leading up to the citadel, where parking is available. Please note that some areas may require you to pay a small fee for parking.

    Public Transportation

    To reach Citadelle Laferrière from Port-au-Prince, take a 'tap-tap' (shared taxi) or a bus heading towards Cap-Haïtien. The journey may take about 3 to 4 hours depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Cap-Haïtien, look for local transportation options like moto-taxis or organized tours that can take you to the citadel. Expect to pay around 100-200 HTG for the moto-taxi ride to the citadel from Cap-Haïtien. Be sure to negotiate the fare before beginning your journey.

    Hiking

    If you are feeling adventurous, you can hike up to the Citadelle from the nearest village, which is about 4 km away from the base of the hill. This route is scenic but involves a steep climb, so be prepared with proper footwear and plenty of water. Entry to the citadel requires a ticket, which costs around 200 HTG. Make sure to start your hike early in the day to avoid the heat.
