Car
If you are traveling by car, begin your journey in La Ceiba, the nearest major city. Drive south on the CA-13 highway towards La Masica. Continue on this road for about 30 kilometers until you reach the town of La Masica. From La Masica, follow the signs to the coastal town of Sonaguera. Upon reaching Sonaguera, look for a sign indicating the direction to Cayo Balfate, where you will find parking available before boarding a boat.
Public Transportation
To reach Cayo Balfate via public transportation, start in La Ceiba. Take a bus heading to La Masica; these buses are frequent and cost around 50 Lempiras (about $2 USD). Upon arriving in La Masica, switch to a local bus or taxi that will take you to the coast where you can find boat services. Expect to pay an additional 100 Lempiras (roughly $4 USD) for the boat ride to Cayo Balfate. The boat ride typically takes about 30 minutes.
Boat
Once you reach the coastal area after traveling by car or public transport, look for local boat operators that provide service to Cayo Balfate. Ensure to negotiate the fare beforehand or ask for the standard price, which can range from 200 to 300 Lempiras (approximately $8 to $12 USD) per person depending on the season and demand.
