Public Transport
Start by taking Metro Line 2 (the red line) from any central station such as Deák Ferenc tér or Astoria. Travel towards Déli Pályaudvar and get off at the Déli Pályaudvar station. From there, exit the station and take tram number 61 or 17 towards the 'Buda' direction. Get off at the 'Szent Gellért Tér' stop. From the tram stop, walk up to the Gellért Hill. You will see a path leading up to the Citadella. Follow the path for about 20-30 minutes until you reach the fortress at the top, enjoying the beautiful views of the city along the way.
Walking
If you're starting from the Buda Castle area, head southwest towards the Chain Bridge. Cross the bridge and turn left onto the path leading up Gellért Hill. Follow the path which will take you through a park area. Continuing on this path will lead you directly to the Citadella. The walk will take approximately 30-40 minutes, and you'll enjoy stunning views of the Danube River and Pest side of Budapest along the way.
Taxi or Ride-Hailing Service
If you prefer a quicker option, you can use a local taxi service or a ride-hailing app like Bolt or Uber. Simply input 'Citadella' as your destination, and the driver will take you directly to the entrance of the fortress. The ride will typically take around 15-20 minutes from the city center, depending on traffic.
