If you are traveling by car, you can start from any location in Northern Hungary and head towards Budapest. Use the M3 motorway towards Budapest. Once you reach the outskirts of Budapest, take the M1 or M7 highways and follow the signs for the city center. As you approach District XI, navigate towards Citadella Street (Citadella stny.), where you will find the Citadella fortress. Parking is available nearby; however, be aware that some areas may require a parking fee.
Public Transportation (Train and Bus)
To reach Citadella using public transportation, take a train from your nearest station in Northern Hungary to Budapest's Nyugati or Keleti Railway Station. Trains run frequently and the journey may take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your starting point. Once in Budapest, transfer to the metro (M3 line) at the Nyugati station and travel to the 'Deák Ferenc tér' station. From there, switch to tram number 19 or 41 and get off at the 'Gellért tér' stop. From Gellért tér, it is a short walk uphill to Citadella. Make sure to purchase a travel card for the metro and tram, which costs around HUF 350 for a single ticket.
