Car
From the Askja Caldera parking area, head southeast on the F88 road. Continue driving for approximately 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) until you reach the junction with F910. Turn left onto F910 and follow the road for about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles). Drekagil will be on your left, identifiable by its dramatic ravine landscape. There is limited parking available near the entrance to Drekagil.
Hiking
If you're already in the Askja Caldera area and prefer a hiking route, you can start your journey from the Askja Caldera crater. Head towards the northeast direction and follow the marked trails that lead to Drekagil. The hike is approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) and should take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and take plenty of water, as the terrain can be challenging.
Public Transportation
Currently, there are no direct public transportation options to Drekagil. However, you can take a bus to the nearest town, Reykjahlíð, and then arrange for a guided tour or a taxi service to reach Drekagil. Make sure to check the local bus schedules as they may vary depending on the season.
