Car
To reach the Askja trail from Askja Caldera, start at the Vikraborgir Car Park located at Öskjuvatnsvegur, 660. From the car park, head south towards the main trailhead. The trail is well-marked, and you will follow the signs leading to Askja. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for highland driving, as some roads may be rough. The drive to the car park can take around 1 hour from the nearest major town, which is Reykjahlíð.
Public Transportation
If you're using public transportation, you can take a bus from Reykjahlíð to Askja Caldera. Check local schedules ahead of time, as services may be limited. The bus will drop you off at the nearest stop to the Vikraborgir Car Park. From there, walk approximately 1 kilometer to reach the trailhead.
