Relax and Rejuvenate at Hellulaug: A Hidden Gem in the Westfjords

Getting There

• Car

  From Dynjandi Waterfall, take Route 60 southbound. Continue on Route 60 for approximately 10 kilometers until you reach the junction with Route 61. Turn right onto Route 61 and follow it for about 21 kilometers. You will pass through the town of Þingeyri. Keep an eye out for signs indicating Flókalundur. As you approach Flókalundur, look for the coordinates HRGP+64, which is the location of Hellulaug. There is a small parking area available for visitors.

• Public Transportation

  While public transportation options can be limited in the Westfjords, you can take a bus from Ísafjörður to Flókalundur. Check the local bus schedule to ensure you catch the right bus. Once you arrive at the Flókalundur bus stop, Hellulaug is approximately a 15-minute walk from there. You will need to head west from the bus stop along Route 61, and then take a right onto a small path leading to Hellulaug, which is well-marked.

• Walking

  If you are already in the vicinity of Flókalundur and wish to walk to Hellulaug, start from the center of Flókalundur. Walk west along Route 61 for about 1.5 kilometers. After passing a few houses, you will see signage for Hellulaug. Follow the path leading down to the hot spring area. Ensure you wear appropriate footwear as the terrain may be uneven.
