To reach Hengifoss by car from various locations in the East Fjords, head towards the town of Egilsstaðir. From Egilsstaðir, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading north. After about 17 km, turn onto Route 931, which leads toward Hengifoss. Follow Route 931 for approximately 9 km until you reach the parking area at the trailhead. The parking is free, and from there, you can start your hike to the waterfall.

If you're traveling by bus, take a bus from Egilsstaðir towards Seyðisfjörður. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may not run frequently. You will need to inform the driver to drop you off at the turn-off for Hengifoss (ask for 'Hengifoss' when you board). Once dropped off, you will need to walk approximately 9 km along Route 931 to reach the parking area. Be prepared for a longer walk, or consider arranging a taxi from Egilsstaðir if the bus schedules do not align with your plans.
