Car
From Hengifoss Waterfall, head south on the main road (Route 1) toward Egilsstaðir. After about 45 km, take the exit toward Route 93. Continue on Route 93 for approximately 15 km. At the junction, turn left onto Vallarvegur. Öfugsnáði will be located on your right-hand side at Vallarvegur, 806. Make sure to check for parking spaces nearby.
Public Transportation
From Hengifoss Waterfall, you need to first take a bus back to Egilsstaðir. Bus schedules may vary, so check the local bus service for the timing. Once in Egilsstaðir, transfer to a bus heading towards Vallarvegur. This may require a transfer as some routes do not go directly to Öfugsnáði. Be sure to inform the driver of your destination (Vallarvegur, 806) to ensure you are dropped off at the correct stop. Note that public transportation may not run frequently, so plan your trip accordingly.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can ride from Hengifoss Waterfall to Öfugsnáði by taking the same route as cars. Head south on Route 1 for about 45 km, then take Route 93 and finally turn onto Vallarvegur. The total distance is approximately 60 km, so make sure to have proper cycling gear, enough water, and snacks for the journey.
Walking
Walking from Hengifoss Waterfall to Öfugsnáði is not practical due to the distance, which is around 60 km. However, if you are a hiking enthusiast, consider breaking the journey into segments and plan for overnight stays along the way. Start by following the same road directions as you would for driving. Be prepared for various terrains and check weather conditions prior to your hike.
