Walking
From the center of Hveragerdi, head west on Aðalgata street until you reach the intersection with Þjóðvegur 1 (Route 1). Turn left onto Þjóðvegur 1 and continue walking for about 1.5 km. You will pass by local shops and residential areas. Keep an eye out for the green hills on your right as you walk. After about 15 minutes, you will arrive at a bus stop named 'Biskupstungnabraut'.
Public Bus
Once you reach the 'Biskupstungnabraut' bus stop, board the bus that is heading towards Selfoss or Reykholt. The bus ride will take approximately 10 minutes. After getting off at the next stop, you will see a sign for Stóri-Hellir. Follow the pathway leading to the historical landmark. It is a short 5-minute walk from the bus stop.
Walking
If you prefer to walk directly from Hveragerdi to Stóri-Hellir without taking the bus, after reaching the intersection with Þjóðvegur 1, continue walking for about 2.5 km. You will see signs for Stóri-Hellir along the way. The path from the main road will lead you directly to the location, taking approximately 30 minutes. Ensure to look for directional markers.
